Ornaments & text

60 examples of ornamental patterns, their cultural and historical background as well as samples of original colours

In the 120 pages of this book you will find decorative elements from many cultures and historical periods. We start with Mesopotamia and Persia and end with modernism and abstraction inspired by the art of Pablo Picasso.

Each illustration is accompanied by an explanatory note giving information on the historical background of the motif, the civilisation concerned, its territory, religious beliefs, cultural profile, particular style and sometimes symbolic meaning, as well as suggestions for the choice of colours. As we know, the palettes of Ancient Greece, the European Middle Ages or China were different, as were the messages given by the colours.

Dimensions: 17x17cm (6,69 x 6,69 in.).

Due to the kind of paper and the richness of the details, I recommend the use of sharp pencils, preferably in a wide range of colours.

This book is also available in a simpler version with only illustrations.
